Unlike the linear gameplay of previous games, the game reverts to the predominantly open 3D gameplay introduced in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. Followed by Mario and Cappy, a perceptual hat recorded in the Super Mario series that allows Mario to control other characters and objects as he travels through different kingdoms and rescues Princess Peach from the enemy Bowser. Super Mario Odyssey is a 2017 platformer developed and released by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch.
